What is Alternatrip?

On the surface, it is an initiative to promote local alternative music, bands and musicians.

Beneath, Alternatrip is a concept – and yet it is an endeavour that refuses to be defined.

It is a continuous recalculation of creative sound work. It subjectifies an objectified, all too persistent, encompassing, and dictative mandate of what music should be.

It is an attempt of what music could be.

It is an invitation to shed the convenience of a repackaged cultural product in exchange for an experimental, experiential body unbounded by the restraints of the prevalent pulse in a repackaged, recycled milieu.

Alternatrip is a realization. It is an unconscious–arguably subconscious, consequence, of a pre-existing countercurrent in music. It is a sincere taking part in and giving off of one’s individual self to a larger collective experience.

It just is a trip, but a trip worth taking.
