AGAW AGIMAT 2023 – Celebrating 30 Years of Music and Struggle.

 

Founded by drummer Renmin Nadela in December 26, 1993 with the aim of revolutionizing the ears of audiences, AGAW AGIMAT was one of the most active bands in the 90’s, having toured almost all the key cities in the archipelago. After a 9 year hiatus, founder Renmin Nadela decided to re-form Agaw Agimat in 2016 — now armed with new members as the band’s 4th generation: Wendy Villanueva from the Punk Ska band The Republicats who has been active in the underground punk scene since 1987 on vocals. Rene Serna who’s a seasoned session player on guitar is also a Sound Engineer by profession. Adeng Maron, from the metal band Orb of Blood is the new bassist. Agaw Agimat’s Revolution continues.

 

 

SHORT 30-YEAR AGAW AGIMAT HISTORY
. 1993 – Renmin Nadela founded the band and recruited his brother and friends to join him. 1st Generation Agaw Agimat was born.
. 1995 – Debut album “R-15” was released under Alpha Records, awarded with the Gold Record Award (20,000 copies sold) after 6 months of release.
. 1997 – 2nd album “Patak” was released under Alpha Records.
. 1998 – Original bassist, Lee Nadela left the band and focused on his newly formed band, Slapshock.
. 1999 – 2nd Generation Agaw Agimat carried on. Pre-3rd album was released in Cebu City under Quasar Records via Backyard Project Studios.
. 2000 – 3rd album “Guerrilla Ballroom” was released under Renmin’s indie label Banana Heart Records and was manufactured and distributed by international label Rock Records.
. 2003 – Original guitarist left the band.
. 2004 – 3rd Generation Agaw Agimat carried on. 4th album “Mantra” was recorded, manufactured and released under Renmin’s new label Guerrilla Music and was distributed by Vicor Music.
. 2007 – Due to personal betrayal uncovered at their Sinulog Tour, Renmin did not want to continue the band. Former vocalist left the country with last words to Renmin: “Wala na akong pakialam dyan sa banda at negosyo mo. Sa’yo na yan!”, officially quitting the band.
. 2011 – Former vocalist came back for a vacation from the US. A few shows were organized as goodwill with former vocalist and original guitarist (now bassist). Renmin realized that the “heart” was not there anymore. Time to put the band to rest.
. 2014 – Close friends of Renmin were convincing him to re-form Agaw Agimat. But the perfect new vocalist was still missing.
. 2016 – Finally, after 2 years of convincing, Wendy Villanueva of underground punk band Republika De Lata agreed to be Agaw Agimat’s new vocalist. Renmin recruited close friends to form Agaw
Agimat’s 4th Generation.
. 2023 – Agaw Agimat celebrates 30 years of music and struggle. Wendy Villanueva, Rene Serna, Adeng Maron, and Renmin Nadela carry on… WE ARE AGAW AGIMAT.
