“Artistically democratic but tyrannically driven for perfection,” these are the words that The Republicats live by. Since 2012 the Filipino ska-hardcore unit, composed of Wendy Villanueva [vocals], Renmin Nadela [drums, vocals], and Jeff Francisco [guitars], have been starting moshpits in Metro Manila through their impeccable energy and sincere lyrics to free their minds of ignorance and fight for justice, freedom, environmentalism, and love. “Our sound is whatever comes out during the songwriting process after being heavily influenced by The Clash, The Ramones, Rancid, and a lot more awesome bands since the ’90s,” Renmin says. “The sound is whatever makes the lyrics come alive! Whatever makes our audiences move! Some call it Punk, Ska, Hardcore… we call it Cats Music.”
